Έκτη ατομική έκθεση γλυπτικής παρουσιάζει ο Κίκης Πάτσαλος Εγκαίνια από τον Αντιδήμαρχο Λάρνακας Κο. Αλέξη Μιχαηλίδη Παρασκευή 16 Απριλίου στις 7.30 μ. μ. Ο καλλιτέχνης ασχολείται κυρίως με μάρμαρο, σίδερο, κυπριακή πέτρα. Ο Κίκης Πάτσαλος γεννήθηκε στο Birmingham της Αγγλίας, από Κύπριους γονείς οι οποίοι κατάγονται από τον Κάτω Δρύ. Έχει σπουδάσει γλυπτική στο Sir John Cass Collage of Art, στο Λονδίνο. Έργα του βρίσκονται στην Κυπριακή Κρατική Πινακοθήκη Σύγχρονης Τέχνης, στη Πινακοθήκη του Δήμου Λάρνακας, στο γυμνάσιο Λευκάρων, και σε ιδιωτικές συλλογές στη Κύπρο και το εξωτερικό. Ο ανδριάντας του Ζήνωνα Κιτιέα στη πλατεία Ευρώπης στη Λάρνακα είναι έργο του ιδίου καθώς επίσης και άλλα γλυπτά του κοσμούν ανοικτούς δημόσιους χώρους. Σχόλια του καλλιτέχνη: «Πιστεύω ότι η Τέχνη είναι ενέργεια, μια εσωτερική ώθηση η οποία κυριεύει τον καλλιτέχνει και τον μετατρέπει σε εργαλείο, σε όχημα και διαμορφωτή της ανεπίγνωστης ψυχικής, μυστικιστικής, πνευματικής, ιερής ζωής. Από την εποχή της Αναγέννησης η Τέχνη έχει σταδιακά χάσει την πνευματικότητα της, πνευματικές και υπερβατικές σχέσεις έχουν απομακρινθεί. Πιστεύω ότι η πιο μεστή νοήματος Τέχνη ακόμα αποκαλύπτει ή προσπαθεί να αποκαλύψει το πνευματικό, το ιερό. Στη δουλειά μου, προσπαθώ να κινηθώ πέραν από το ορατό και να εκφράσω την εργασία της ανεπίγνωτης φαντασίας’» Όπως γράφει ο Carl Jung “ Ο καλλιτέχνης μας καθοδηγεί να βρούμε το δρόμο μας στις βαθύτερες πηγές της ζωής. Εκεί βρίσκεται η κοινωνική σημασία της Τέχνης. Βρίσκεται πάντοτε σε λειτουργία διαπαιδαγωγώντας το πνεύμα της εποχής, πραγματοποιώντας ως δια μαγείας τις μορφές που η εποχή στερείται.»
KIKIS PARSALOS Sixth Solo Sculpture Exhibition 16 April until 10 May 2010
The exhibition will be opened by the Deputy Mayor of Larnaca, Mr. Alexis Michaelides on Friday 16 April 2010 at 7.30 p.m. The artist works with marble, steel, iron and Cypriot stone. Born in Birmingham, England, of Cypriot parents from Kato Drys, he studied at Sir John Cass College of Art in London. His sculptures can be found in the State collection of Cyprus Contemporary Art, the Larnaca Municipal gallery, London galleries and in international private collections, and public squares in Cyprus, including the statue of Zeno of Kitium on Larnaca Sea front. He also represented Cyprus in the Budabest Biennale of 1978 The artist says about his work: “I have been influenced by Kandinsky’s ‘Concerning The Spiritual in Art’ and Mercia Eliades book ‘Symbolism, the Sacred and the Arts’, also by Ancient and Eastern philosophy. Eliades discusses the meaning of myths, the origin of the scared from primitive to modern times. I think the act of sculpting places the sculptor in an endless chain back to prehistoric times when a hunter carved a bear out of a mammoths tusk, not to make what we would call art but to show his humility to the great bear, in his way he was expressing something sacred it became an idol for him. When I sculpt today, I hope to repeat a gesture that has mystical origins. I work mainly in an abstract manner, for a feel this is the way to express the mystical. We cannot ignore the fact that art has always had a mystical religious purpose. My sculpture is an attempt to move beyond the limits of the rational, the known, to the iconography of the symbols produced by all human spirit in what Jung called Archetypes of the collective unconscious in search of a view of life which is actually the sacred”. |
