The
artist was born at Famagusta. She studied Graphic Design and
painting at Hornsey College of Art (Middlesex University). She
is a member of ‘EKATE’ and has participated in several group
exhibitions both in Cyprus and abroad. She was awarded the
silver medal for her paintings exhibited in an exhibition held
by the Pancyprian Club of Art and Literature of the Youth.
She has elaborated book covers for many Cypriot Writers.
Her works are found in private collections in England, France,
Greece, The United States and Cyprus. She has worked as a
teacher in Secondary schools and many of her students have been
awarded prizes in European contests of art. In the world
conference of INSEA, (International Society for Education
through Art) she presents how she works and her students’
works of sculpture. Jan M De Grawu, from Holland, Programme
Director Association of Creativity Development, is so impressed
that he dedicates many pages in the VCO bulletin of Holland
about that.
Feeling
and spontaneity dominate her works. The cold colours she often
uses, truly express the climate and the state of feeling in her
works. The thick lines and the antithesis in light and shade
enlarge the dilemmas hidden in the shapes of the works.
Her
paintings are dominated by man-centred and in this series
‘MASKS’ her worries about man and human relations are easily
seen. The artist says’ daily affectation, human isolation,
lack of communication between people, are topics that touch us.
Dominated by the agony to be appreciated and liked by people, in
our everyday relations, force us to hide our true personality
and present people a different one. Affectations, show-offs,
hypocrisies define our everyday life. Having as a refuge THE
MASK, we hide from the weaknesses, desires, insecurities even
from our own selves.
Louis
Perentos remarks: Painter’s questions dominate in her works. Her witness shown
through her protagonist lives, becomes caustic and forces the
viewer to discover his own beliefs. Forces the honest viewer to
recognise himself and walk with the humanity to find its
destiny.
A
genuine voice that shake us after years of silence. Art springs
directly from the everyday life’s problems and oppressions.
Feelings transformed into pictures are able to pass their
meanings to everyone’.
