Ο
Carl Haag γεννήθηκε στη Βαβαρία το 1820. Είναι ένας
πολιτογραφημένος Βρετανός ζωγράφος.
Σπούδασε ζωγραφική στις Ακαδημίες
Νιρεμβέργης και Μονάχου. Ζωγράφος της
Αυλής του Δούκα Saxe
– Coburg και Gotha.
Εργάστηκε
πρώτα σαν εικονογράφος βιβλίων και σαν
ζωγράφος στο λάδι, στα πορτραίτα. Μετά που
εγκαταστάθηκε στην Αγγλία το 1847 αφιέρωσε
τον εαυτό του στις υδατογραφίες και το 1850
επελέγη “Associate of
the Royal
Society of
Painters in
Water Colors” και έγινε μέλος το 1853. Ταξίδευσε πολύ
και ιδιαίτερα στη Ανατολή, Δαλματία,
Αίγυπτο, Συρία, Άγιοι Τόποι και Ελλάδα.
Απέκτησε
φήμη για το θετικό σχέδιο και το πολύ
λεπτομερές ζωγράφισμα ανατολικών
θεμάτων. Προς το τέλος της επαγγελματικής
του καριέρας εγκατέλειψε την Αγγλία και
επέστρεψε στη Γερμανία. Πέθανε στις
24/01/1915.
Το
1986 η Ελληνική Φιλοτελική Υπηρεσία
εξέδωσε αναμνηστικό φάκελο «Ελλάδας –
Ευρώπης» με έργο του που απεικονίζει την
Ακρόπολη. |

CARL HAAG was born in Bavaria on 1820 and died on 1915. A naturalized British Painter, court Painter to the duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha was trained in the academies at Nuremberg and Munich. He practised first as an illustrator and as a painter, in oil, of portraits and architectural subjects, but after he settle in England in 1847, he devoted himself to water colours, and was elected associate of the Royal Society of Painters in Water colours in 1850 and member in 1853. He travelled much visiting Dalmatia, Egypt, Syria, the Holy Land and Greece, and made a considerable reputation by his firmly drawn and carefully elaborated paintings of Eastern Subjects. Towards the end of his professional career Carl Haag quitted England and returned to German. In 1986 the Filotelique Service in Athens issued Greek postcard using a Carl Haag painting of the Acropolis.
